Who We Are
Formed in 1997, the Ontario Women’s Health Network (OWHN) is a network of individuals and organizations that promotes women's health. OWHN works with women, health and social service providers, community organizations and others to support equitable, accessible and effective health services for all women in Ontario.
OWHN is a registered non-profit organization.
Our mission is to link women to health information and resources; and to address the health and healthcare barriers faced by women in Ontario, particularly women who are marginalized, through our research and advocacy work.
Our vision is a society in which every woman is provided with the opportunity to achieve, sustain and maintain health as defined by the woman herself, to her full potential.
What We Do
OWHN builds community capacity through the exchange of knowledge via our ongoing community consultations, listserv and bi-weekly E-Digest, as well through supporting women to find information, services and resources in communities across Ontario.
OWHN has created Inclusion Resources to facilitate community based research and engagement with women. We conduct research in partnership with women, community agencies and other women’s health stakeholders. We have also developed programming to support women leading change in women’s health and health care across the province.
Our work takes the form of Information Sharing, Research, Advocacy and Networking.
Our Directory of Women's Health and Community Services is a searchable database of women’s health related services and resources in communities across Ontario. We also respond to phone and email requests from women looking for local services.
Our moderated listserv offers subscribers an opportunity to share information on events, resources and employment and volunteer opportunities.
Our bi-weekly E-Digest promotes women’s health events, announcements, resources and employment and volunteer opportunities.
We bring women together in their communities through focus groups and programming to foster opportunities to share information, develop networks and learn about community resources.
OWHN co-developed Inclusion Research methodology, and carries out community based research on a wide range of topics. We learn from women about their health and health care issues and concerns and develop recommendations and strategies based on our findings.
Our research has allowed us to engage with diverse women from across Ontario, with a particular focus on reaching women who experience marginalization.
OWHN communicates the concerns identified by research participants and makes recommendations to governments and service providers and other stakeholders.
OWHN facilitates cross-sectoral networking through community forums, our listserv, participation in conferences and other events and through our program and knowledge translation activities.
